Pride vs Humility

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.” Proverbs 11:2

Who, in the history of man or woman, has liked proud, arrogant, conceited people? I can give you the answer to that . . . NO ONE. The problem with egotistical people who think too highly of themselves is that they can’t see clearly. C. S. Lewis once wrote, “A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you’re looking down, you can’t see something that’s above you.”

This is why God, too, opposes the proud. Here are some verses to consider.

* Matthew 23:12: “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

* James 4:6: “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God.”

* 1 Peter 5:6: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.”

Humility and grace are rare qualities today. So . . . I suggest we be rare!

Blessings,
Joe
