Listening and Growing Wise: A Lesson from Proverbs 9:9

Have you ever met a person (aka “that” person) who takes everything with a defensive posture because in their mind (and you can thank their mother for this!) they never do anything wrong? Yeah…they aggravate me, too. The truth is, and this principle comes from the Bible so you have to listen to it, we’re all imperfect and need some good advice from time to time. Proverbs 9:9 says, “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase his learning.”

I guess the real question is, How willing are you to learn? Have you become so wise in your own eyes that you no longer need anyone’s opinion on matters, even matters including yourself? That’s not a place God wants His people to live. Wise people are wise because they

listen
consider the possibility of truth
make necessary adjustments

This principle is simple, but often avoided because of pride, a lack of humility. Take a lesson from Proverbs 9:9 . . . wise people become wiser because they listen.

Blessings,
Joe
