“There is now therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. . . . For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.” (Romans 8: 1, 5)
If we’re going to live the life that God has called us to live in Christ, we have to emphasize 2 things.
- We have to emphasize God’s Word
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what anyone says about us. It doesn’t even matter what we say about ourselves. The only word that matters is God’s Word. It is true (Proverbs 30:5). It is settled (Psalm 119:89). And Romans 8:1 says that if anyone is “in Christ” (meaning, if anyone is a Christian), then they are not condemned!
- We have to emphasize the Holy Spirit
Aside from work, what do you spend the majority of your day doing? World things? Or spiritual things? For example, if you spent tim ein prayer, then that would be categorized under spiritual things. But if you spent time watching a secular TV show, then that would be categorized under worldly things. So take inventory of your life? Now answer the question – Where is the emphasis? To help us all live a life that emphasizes the things of the Spirit, I would like to refer to Philippians 4:8. It reads, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
What God can and will do to us, through us, and around us becomes exponentially greater than we could ever think or imagine when we live our lives emphasizing His Word and His Spirit.
