God’s Faithfulness…to Himself and to Us

“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleans us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:8-9

This is arguably one of my favorite texts in the Bible, because it provides a promise for each and every one of us. We are sinners–wrong in the eyes of God, morally compromised, spiritually dead (Romans 3:10, 23; Ephesians 2:1-2). The Bible makes no apology for that. Yet, this promise from 1 John assures us that, if we simply confess, then we will be forgiven–and cleansed. Any of us. All of us.
